AUTOSTOP

“The day you finish reading this book, we’ll meet in person,” says Carlos, the protagonist of this story. But first, you must travel with him along a gritty, winding path: an accident that changes everything, hostile boarding schools, addictions, painful romances, constant comings and goings, freefalls without a safety net, relapses, and nights spent on the streets. Carlos loses everything, even himself. And as his memory begins to fade, he writes this account as a desperate attempt to keep from disappearing completely.
Autostop is a realistic drama that explores homelessness, memory, and the power of the human will.
CURIOSITIES
- I spent one night sleeping on the street to experience firsthand what it is like to be homeless.
- The novel Hijos de la droga by Christiane F served as inspiration for depicting the effects of drugs.
- The protagonist, Carles, is a fictional character. Even so, I created him based on the accounts of Antonio and Cheli, two homeless individuals who shared their life experiences with me.
